Fear of Statues

About a month or so ago Sienna was watching an episode of Sesame Street at my parents house while I was at work. Apparently, from what I heard, there was a statue on the wall that suddenly came to life and started dancing with Elmo. Well since that very moment, Sienna has officially become obsessed with statues. Her degree of fright has varied a lot over the last month and at this point, I think we're managing it quite well. :) At the start of it she was afraid of all things on TV that looked like statues (even if they weren't). For example, a picture in a frame on a cartoon was a statue in her mind or a mannequin in a store was a statue. It got so bad that on one recent trip to the mall she was refusing to enter any store that had statues in them! Umm, yeah, we had to nip that one in the bud real quick. I've found that if I'm "friendly" with the statues in the stores she warms up to them, too. So, if by chance you see me in Dick's Sporting Goods petting and talking to an Under Armour mannequin, don't laugh. :) It's really sad/interesting how much she thinks about statues. For a while there she would wake up and the first thing she would say is, "guess what - I saw a statue at Red Robin yesterday!" (There's a Satue of Liberty in the foyer of the Sterling Red Robin.) Now she's even taken songs that she knows and is replacing some words with the word statue. For example, "the statue stands alone!" from The Farmer in the Dell. Or "the statue went out on a windy night..." from an old English folktale. She really is an interesting child...I'm amazed at how her brain works everyday!

I don't think I've ever posted the professional pictures we had taken from Open Air Photography (http://www.youropenair.com/) on this blog. So here is one of my faves of the Queen of Statues....

this is really an interesting fear. But, understandable. I think some of the things on Sesame Street can be a little scary for the little ones.

I love this picture of her. So beautiful!

Kids are so funny. The statue fear is one for the baby book for sure! It is so funny! I would have done the same thing - talk to them like you're friends/not scared, etc. Some of the things we do for our kids! We have to get together - next week? I'm going stir-crazy!!
