Scott and I will have been married 5 years tomorrow (June 3)! I can honestly say that I love him so much more now than I did when we got married, 5 years ago, which seems crazy, but it's true! He's an incredible friend, husband and father and I'm so honored and blessed to spend all my days with him. :)
With that being said, I could've killed him last weekend...haha. I knew he had something in the works, but truly thought it was just a dinner out at Magnolia at the Mill...one of our favorite places, and a place I've been craving for a while. To back up a little, I'm the planner in the family. And although I complain a lot about "always having to arrange everything!", I actully prefer it this way. I'm a control freak and obsessed with being aware of what's going on at all times. I have asked Scott many times to just plan something! Just arrange a date night himself and secure the arrangements for the kids himself...never do I ever say, "surprise me!" I LOVE, LOVE surprising other people, it's so fun, but I, myself, don't like to be surprised. This goes along with being a control freak, and...I'm working on it. ;)
So fast forward to early Sunday morning - Scott and I are sitting drinking coffee and the boys are up, playing. Scott writes on a Magna-doodle, "your surprise is TODAY," and has Hudson hand it to me. Haha. I just assumed dinner reservations were that night. So, without any disclosed plans for the day, we all get dressed and prepare to head to Panera for breakfast. As the kids and I are sitting in the running car in the driveway, Scott says he has to get something inside and comes back 15 minutes later with 3 packed suitcases!! I was shocked that he had planned for us to go somewhere overnight and a little nervous about what he had packed for me! We go to Panera, then to his parents, where we say goodbye to Sienna and Hudson, then to m parents, where we say goodbye to Noah and head north on 495! At this point, I was thinking maybe NYC, AC, Annapolis, or one of the DE beaches. He had tried (and successfully did so) to fool me by telling me that some of my friends knew the plans or that where we're going had to do with wood (the traditional 5yr anniversary gift) or that we had to be at our surprise by a certain time. These were lies! All lies! I must say, he did a great job at fooling me! So, around lunchtime, we finally ended up at our destination - Annapolis!
Scott had never been to Annapolis before and I had any only been briefly one other time, many years ago. It was gorgeous! The weather was a tad hot, but the breeze from the water was incredible! There are so many good restaurants, cute boutiques and beautiful buildings. I love, love, love it there! Once we got there, we went on a boat cruise down the Severn River. (I put on FB that we were in the bay - that's because at that point, that's where I thought we were...haha...I need to work on my bodies of water!) The boat ride was beautiful and we got an amazing tour of the Naval Academy from the water. We then had some lunch at an Irish pub, did a little shopping and headed to our hotel to check-in. It was there that Scott surprised me with a necklace from Tiffany's, another shocker! It's gorgeous and of course, what girl doesn't love the sight of that turquoise box. :) We napped for a bit, showered and headed back out to walk around some more. We had a fabulous dinner near the water and then decided to stroll the campus of the Naval Academy for a bit. I have to say, this was an amazingly beautiful campus and we are now going to start working on Hudson and Noah's love of boats. :) After our campus stroll, we got a glass of wine/beer and headed back to the hotel for an early bedtime. We are certainly not the party animals we used to be. Well, I'm not anyway. ;)
With the Naval Academy's mascot.
Scott and some pretty flowers.
This was cool. There was this neighborhood type street on the campus, that houses special officers in the Navy and one Marine Corps officer.
The beautiful chapel, where we caught one wedding ending and another beginning!
Aww...how I missed these monsters! Well......only a little... ;)
