Our family spent the 4th at the Opitz Family lake house down at Lake Anna. The day was filled with good weather, great food and fabulous company - exactly the way July 4th is supposed to be celebrated! The kids were well behaved (thank goodness) and we're so grateful for all the extra hands that were available to hold and play with them! Sienna really enjoyed the day - except for the fireworks - not really her cup of tea yet. :) Below are lots of pictures of the fun day:
Sienna playing with her buckets on the dock.
Her very first boat ride AND she fell asleep!
Hudson didn't need a boat ride - the raft on the dock suited him just fine.
Hudson didn't seem to mind the fireworks, one bit!

Sienna, on the other hand, had a slight problem with them. :)
Now for the second half of the post - Sienna started at the Goddard School on July 1 and needless to say, it's been much more stressful than I had hoped. She doesn't quite understand yet why Hudson gets to go to my Dad's, the place she loves and is so comfortable with and she has to go to school, this unknown place with lots of new faces. Yesterday on the car ride over to my Dad's she goes, "I don't want you drop me off at school anymore. I just stay at Pop-Pop's. How about that? That sounds good!" Can you imagine how heartbreaking that is to hear? So to put it lightly, she's not in love with school yet. It's definitely going to take some time and I'm trying so hard to be patient with the process. She only goes two days a week, so I'm hoping by the time a month is up, she'll enjoy it much more. We're battling some tears when I drop her off AND pick her up. The tears when I pick her up are not because she doesn't want to leave, it's because she wants to leave the second she sees me. Yesterday, she screamed the whole time I packed up her belongings and talked to her teacher. Poor thing. I've been calling the school twice a day, every day that she's there and they are always so sweet and patient with me. Apparently, she is great throughout the day - a happy child that is eating and napping well. This school is really great, however. They have storytellers, reptile shows, water days, etc. How can she not grow to love it? Pray that the drop off/pick up situation gets better for us - I don't know who's taking it harder, me or her! :)

It was great seeing you the other day at the mall! I'm so sorry, Shannon, about Sienna's tough adjustment. I'm sure it just takes time and Sienna will come to love her school. I'll be thinking of you guys!
I'm sorry that she is having such a tough time coming and going each school day - but my sister and I were the same way. Come to think of it, I think we even cried when my mother dropped us off to dance class for an hour. Hopefully she'll get used to it and it will get better for you all soon:)
