February 25, 1999

Today is a special day in the Longendyke household, because today marks the 10 year anniversary of when Scott and I started dating! Gosh, I really cannot believe we've been together for a decade! That just seems like a really long time...hehe! :) It's really a funny story how we started dating, so I'll share with you all...

Scott and I became close friends our senior year in high school. When he left to go to JMU and I to ECU, we kept in touch and saw each other over our fall and winter breaks. Something happened in February, where we started talking more over AIM and he decided to surprise me at ECU. I had no clue he was coming, but all my friends did. That Friday night, there was a knock at our suite. All my suite-mates insisted I get it, which I thought was strange, and there he stood...with flowers, I think. (My memory is a little bit foggy - it has been 10 years!) So we spent that whole weekend together and decided we would give a relationship a shot. I definitely had low expectations at the beginning...we were both freshman in college and at different schools - 5.5 hours apart! But somehow it worked. We saw each other often and talked soooo much! My Mom can account for bad calling card bills - sorry, Mom! :) That spring, ECU was hit by Hurricane Floyd and the school shut down for over a month. As I spent time at home and with Scott, I realized that I didn't want to go back and transferred to Nova-then GMU that winter.

It's definitely been a wild ride and not without our share of ups and downs. But in the end, it's been an amazing 10 years and I look forward to the next 10 and the next 10, and the next. I'm so blessed to have Scott and our amazing two children in my life. If anyone would have told us that night at ECU that we'd be here in 10 years, I would have thought you were NUTS...but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Tonight, Scott and I headed out to Fireworks Pizza for dinner - just the two of us! I'm really excited, they have the best pizza. Then home to watch American Idol - what a boring and perfect life we lead. :)

Okay, our scanner is broken and sadly I can't attach real old pictures. :( But I've attached a few older ones.
