Christmas, Pyogenic Granuloma and Baby Noah

Santa was very good to The Longendyke's this year! Our kids especially made out pretty well, and every year, I wonder why I do this to myself. We have a townhome and all of our rooms were maxed out before Christmas! Now, I have more toy cleaning and organizing then ever before. :) Oh well, we will work it out and some local kids will get some great old toys of ours. I won't go into all the details of our Christmas festivities, but we had so much fun spending quality time with both sides of our families. A perfect Christmas, indeed.

The Saturday morning after Christmas, we got a not so fun surprise when we went to get Hudson from his crib. He must have cut his pyogenic granuloma in the middle of the night and it bled HEAVILY for 3 hours!!! You must be asking yourself, what the heck is a pyogenic granuloma? Well, it's really just a red, benign growth of blood vessels that he had on his face, in between his nose and eye. It origniated from a sratch (as they typically do) and had opened once before, bleeding very badly. His pediatrician diagnosed it about three weeks ago and referred us to Children's to have it removed, under sedation. Of course, I was super thrilled about this (read: freaking out) and called Children's immediately when I got home to try and get in ASAP. Yeah, apparently ASAP doesn't really happen at Children's and the first available appointment was April 7!! So, I scheduled it and was crossing my fingers that it wouldn't open up before then...which brings me back to the day after Christmas when we had a crime scene in Hudson's room! We freaked because we couldn't get it to stop bleeding and took him to the Loudoun Hospital Peds ER. We spent three hours there, where they eventually got the bleeding under control, but not without starting an IV. Ugh. I was so scared for him during this, but he was so incredibly tough and only cried for not even a minute! All of his blood work came back excellent and we were discharged with instructions to have this removed asap, like Monday. Fast forward to 5:15am on Sunday morning and when we go to get a whiny Hudson, we were welcomed by the same bloody mess! Thankfully, the hospital had sent us home on Saturday with some gelfoam and steri-strips, just in case. We were able to control the bleeding ourselves and prayed for just one day and night of no bleeding so we can get him in somewhere on Monday. I spent most of Monday morning calling all over the WDC area looking for someone that would remove this thing on a baby's face THAT also accepted United Healthcare insurance....NOT an easy task. I finally found a Moh's surgeon in Lansdowne that would see Hudson! (http://www.ssncv.com/) Dr. Todd and his staff did an amazing job and removed this thing, without sedation! Of course, this process was not pleasant for anyone involved, especially poor Hudson, but we had no other choice. Children's didn't see this as an urgent enough matter to get us in sooner than April and we were not going to have anymore bloody mornings. (I was especially tired of washing sheets and cribs at this point!) So, it's done! Hudson was a great patient, considering the circumstances and now we just pray this doesn't come back, as they typically do. :( (I'm keeping my Children's appointment, just in case!)

I haven't said too much about little Noah lately, so I decided to designate an entire paragraph to him...hehe. :) He turns 11 weeks today (where does the time go???) and is seriously the sweetest, happiest little boy! He is constantly cooing and smiling and really loves his brother and sister. He finally overcame his sleep issues...which I'm sure weren't really "issues," just me being slightly annoyed with his up every 3 hours pattern for a few straight weeks! He now sleeps through the night...typically an 8-9 hour stretch, but he sometimes gives us 10 hours, which we happily accept! At his 8 week check-up, he weighed and measured the EXACT same measurements as Hudson did at his 8 week appointment. How weird is that? We sort of felt like Noah was our biggest baby (90% for weight!), but didn't realize Hudson was just as huge at this point. :) We are so grateful and feel incredibly blessed to have him COMPLETE our family. ;)

Hope everyone had a great 2009! We certainly enjoyed our year, but look forward to an exciting 2010 filled with good health, happiness and love for all our friends and family! Cheers!

Great post! The pic of Hudson at the Doctor's office breaks my heart, but then a few pictures later, he melts my heart with Noah. Glad you had a great holiday, and Hudson's doing better:)

Glad you guys had such a wonderful Christmas, but sorry to hear about Hudson's poor debacle. Glad to hear surgery went well though, and I'll cross my fingers that you won't need your April appointment. You have such a beautiful family!

Childrens seriously sucks when it comes to appt. Georgia has been going there since she was born. Every other day for the first 10 weeks of life and now we are finally down to every 3 months. Before she was born the Dr. wanted us to call the second (literally Tom called right after delievery) to get her an appt. When we got there, we had NO appt!! WTF. The admins were rude and not accomodating at all. Here I am with a less then a week old baby, in DC, and no appt. The Dr. walked by and saw us in there and brought us back that second. I was very tempted to walk by the admins on my way back and stick my tonge out at them. Ok Im done venting. haha but I know how frustrating this was for you and Im glad everything worked out. I will pray for the little guy that this thing does NOT come back. :)
