So since Christmas, we've been to the ER not once, but twice! I've never been a rush to the ER kind of gal, but with Hudson bleeding heavily from the face and Noah barely being able to breathe, I thought these trips were a necessity, and as it turns out, they definitely were!
Noah developed a cold in the middle of last week and likely caught it from Sienna and then Hudson. As the week went on, Noah seemed to get worse as the others were getting a little better. He started to become extremely fussy, irritable, sleepy and had ZERO appetite. Seriously, this kid was eating 30+ ounces a day and from Thursday-Saturday, he probably didn't have 30 ounces total. He had a horrible cough, was starting to wheeze and developed a fever...all pretty scary things! My cousin had told me earlier on in the day on Saturday too keep an eye out for RSV, and when I got home that evening, I started researching it on webMD. I was convinced at this point, that he had it and needed to get him to the ER.
So, the ER is not fun, especially with a baby. Luckily, my sister's roommate works in the ER and was so sweet and good to Noah. They ran a RSV and flu test, started and IV (after 3 tries - worst thing EVER!) and did some chest x-rays. After a good 4 hours in the ER we released with an RSV diagnosis and a perscription for a nebulizer and albuterol. RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is basically just a bad cold, but can be very dangerous in infants, sometimes leading to a hospital stay or pneumonia. After we were discharged, my amazing and kind mother went all the way to Centreville (why are there no 24 hr pharmacies in Loudoun County?) to pick up his medicine and delivered it to my house at 1:30AM! Side note: I really have no clue what I would do without my and Scott's parents - they are the best. Anyways, we had a rough Sunday and Monday, but it finally looks like the RSV is making its way out of his system. He's back to his normal, happy self again and ate 28 ounces today - the most he's eaten since he got sick. :)
