Gratitude Journal

Last week at BSF, I was standing up from the pew and a friend of mine said, you moan a lot..."what's with all the noises?"  Ha!  It's so true, I moan and groan a lot and that's not when I'm complaining or stressing out about something verbally.  I moan when I stand up, because usually my body hurts - my left hip has been popping when I walk now about 70% of the time.  I moan because my kids won't get it together.  I moan because I have soooo much schoolwork/housework to do, but zippy time to do it in.  I moan because______and the list goes on and on.  It was an eye-opener - and I need to zip my mouth and cut out the groaning.  Life is precious and my life is great.  Sure, there are always areas for improvement (new hip, more time, etc.), but as I say to my kids everynight during their bedtime prayers...we thank you God for our health, happiness and the love in our hearts.  Everything else is just "stuff,"  that comes and goes.  :)

A few weeks ago, I decided to start a gratitude journal.  I actually bought a cute little journal and got all excited about it.  All I do is write down 1 thing, big or small, that I am grateful for everyday.  Sometimes it's funny, "I am grateful for not feeling like I had to throw up at the Nursing home today."  Or sometimes it's big stuff, "I am grateful for a hardworking husband."  I actually LOVE doing this because it helps keep everything in perspective for me.

So, on this Friday morning that I've been up since 4:20AM...I'm grateful for 3 children who sleep soundly through the night...well, most nights.  ;)

Shannon, there's an app for that! I have a gratitude journal on my iPhone and I definately agree that it helps me keep perspective. Good luck with your journaling and on losing the groan. I've noticed I do it so much, Ben does it too... what have I done? :)
