There was a little bit of a yee-haw theme to last weeks activities and we loved every second of it. I used to think that I would NEVER be able to live out in the country, but I'm kind of starting to get a little bit used to it. I've said this before, but you really can't beat Northern VA - you have literally everything at your fingertips! Last Thursday, the kids and I (plus Barbara and Brooke) headed to Barbara's friend's house/farm for a little tour of the grounds and a peek at the animals. I thought we were only going to pet the horses and then be on our way, but Ms. Jodi took us all around a good portion of her 53 acres!!!! and we got to see a whole bunch of cool stuff. The kids were a little frightened by the horses (only Sienna and Brooke petted them), but they loved getting to see the barn, farm equipment, indoor/outdoor training areas and they even got a snack at the end!
Keeping with our John Denver theme, we met 2 of our good friends and their fearless boys at the Clarke County Fair in Berryville, VA last Friday night. Sienna and I, being the city girls that we are, were a little intimidated by the MANY animals so close to you as you walked through the different areas. We saw and petted - cows, bunnies, pigs, sheep, roosters, baby chicks, ducks, bulls (we didn't pet these!), and more. The kids had french fries and cotton candy for dinner (parent's of year...right here) and even rode a few rides! Sienna and Hudson rode their first roller coaster - with me of course. Not because they were scared, but because I was scared for them. I sat next to Hudson with my arm around him and he proceeded to move it. I need to let go...it's a problem. :) We ended the night with a peak of the professional bull-riding show and headed home back over the mountain with some worn-out country kids and some great memories.
