An Easter Surprise

And no I'm not talking about the Easter Bunny.  I'm referring to Noah's deep, second degree burn on his left thumb, right palm and right pointer finger!  Happy Easter to us!

In all seriousness, this was one of the saddest things I've ever experienced.  Sure kids fall down and get hurt, but no 18 month old should get burned by a spotlight at church on Easter Sunday!  That's just wrong.  I understand accidents happen, but this really could've been prevented.  At mass on Sunday, the boys were playing outside, while Sienna and I actually enjoyed the mass, and before Scott knew it, Noah had bent down and reached out with both hands to touch a spotlight that was shining up at the Blessed Mother statue.  He immediately screamed and within a minute or 2 a huge blister had already formed on his hand.  Scott ran into church, grabbed Sienna and I and we went home to treat our burn victim.  He screamed the whole way home.  We were able to run it under cold water, bandage it up and move on with our Easter Sunday with a somewhat cranky toddler...do you blame him?

Coincidentally, I already had an 18 month check-up scheduled for him on Tuesday, so we were able to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.  They were concerned about how deep it could be underneath the blister, but there was nothing we can do until it popped.  Well it finally popped Wednesday night and I think it looks good!!  We have to monitor it, clean it twice a day and give it a new dressing twice a day as well.  We go back for a re-check next week - and fingers crossed that it won't need to be debrided, which could be quite uncomfortable for him.  :(

This is a picture of the blister, after it popped.

And now after all the dead skin was removed.

Scott emailed the church to notify them of what happened and they were VERY kind and apologetic.  They removed the light and want to help in any other way possible.  They even have a priest in Rome praying for little Noah.  How cool!  Please pray that this heals well and quickly and without the need for debridement!

What a tough cookie! Poor Noah, I'm hoping most of the pain is gone now. And I'm glad Scott emailed the church, at least you can keep other little kids safe :)
